OnePlus Buds Pro 3 Unveiled With Dual DACs, Adaptive ANC, and Dynaudio Tuning
OnePlus just unveiled the next generation of the Pro Buds, which were unveiled by singer-songwriter Anuva Jaina. The new model offers better sound quality, stronger noise cancellation, and slightly better battery life.
The OnePlus Buds Pro 3 feature a dual-driver system with 11mm woofers and 6mm tweeters. What sets them apart from the Pro 2 buds is a new dual-DAC system, a first for the series. One DAC powers the woofer, while the other is connected to the tweeter. Additionally, the woofer design now uses two magnets, another improvement over the Pro 2 buds. Both the woofer and tweeters also feature new diaphragms. According to OnePlus, these changes result in powerful bass and crisp highs. The earbuds have been tuned by Danish speaker manufacturer Dynaudio.
The new Adaptive Noise Cancellation automatically adjusts the level of noise cancellation. For example, when you leave a quiet office and walk down a noisy street, the ANC system can increase noise cancellation by up to 50 dB (compared to 48 dB on the Pro 2).
OnePlus claims that adaptive ANC can extend battery life, as an unreasonably high level of ANC drains the battery faster without making much of a practical difference compared to a lower level. However, the improvement, judging by battery life, is quite minor.
Each earbud has a 58mAh battery and can last up to 10 hours with ANC off or up to 6 hours with Adaptive ANC on (compared to 60mAh, 9 hours, and 6 hours in the old model).
The case houses a 566mAh battery, which increases the total listening time to 43 hours without noise cancellation and 25.5 hours with adaptive ANC. Charging is done either via USB-C (which takes 70 minutes) or wirelessly (2 hours and 30 minutes). When wired, 10 minutes of charging will give you 13 hours of listening time.
OnePlus Buds Pro 3 are equipped with 3 microphones and a Voice Pick Up (VPU) sensor in each earphone. IP55 protection class from dust and water (the earphones themselves, the case has no protection). The new product is available in two colors: Midnight Opus and Lunar Radiance.
Connection is via Bluetooth 5.4 with LHDC 5.0 and AAC codecs. Google Fast Pair and Spatial Audio are also supported. Note that the minimum latency is the same as before, 94 ms.
The OnePlus Buds Pro 3 are available in the US and Canada on oneplus.com for a suggested retail price of $180 USD/$270 CAD. For a limited time, the price is reduced by $30 USD/$40 CAD, and students can get an additional 15% off (offer ends September 20). The Pro 3 buds will also be available on Amazon starting in late September or early October.
In Europe, the new product is available in the UK for £200, although there is a temporary discount of £20. In the EU, the price is €200 with a €20 discount. The new product is also expected to appear in India soon.
